Day 55 of Challenge (60/60), Class #57 – Happy Thanksgiving!

I have so much to be thankful for this year and every day of my life. I think Bikram Yoga has taught me to be more aware of my blessings and to be more grateful for all the things in my life. That is why they always stress focusing on the positive in class. Just the fact you come to class is a HUGE accomplishment. As I am nearing the end of the Challenge (60/60) it’s perfect the end comes at Thanksgiving time. I am thankful for my body, mind, and spirirt and I am SO thankful for my incredible supportive Hubby who encourages and cheers me on in this endeavor. I am also MOST grateful for my two BEAUTIFUL children – they are a fruition of all the things I have done right in my life.

This morning there was only one class at Stony Pt and West End. I went to the 10am at the West End taught by the sweet Garland. Her classes are like sour patch kids candy…. she is super sweet then you get a kick in the ass class on top of it. The room I am thankful to say today was not scorching hot but just normal regular hot today. I made sure this morning to chug my coconut water and take all my supplements. I woke up pretty late so I only had a piece Ezekial bread with almond butter and jelly. No coffee though so I did feel a little off going into the studio. Something about that coffee.

I almost skipped class today but I made myself go because I knew I wouldn’t want to do a double on Monday or Tuesday.  Class was busy but not as crazy busy as last night. I was relieved because sometimes when it gets so busy the energy can be overwhelming and make the class even harder. Sometimes it uplifts you and carries you through class… I guess it just depends on you and your body that day.

There were a bunch of yoga friends in class today. I practiced next to Sam and right in front of Edibell today so I had good energy flowing my way. For some reason I was really thirsty in class so I feel like I took a sip or gulp of my water after almost every pose (after “party time” of course). Sam next to me drank none…. he is such a good yogi. Sam also stayed in Camel the longest today. Garland sometimes does extra long Camel posture the second time around. Today it was a 2 minute hold. In the past I usually can hang with it and hold on but today I just came out after about a minute or so. Sam always stays in the longest and wins – not that it is a competition.

I had a harder class today but it was a good one at the same time. I think my body is just feeling the 60/60 and as I am heading toward the end my body seems to know the end is coming near. I will definitely need a couple days off after this is all over with. I am so glad I will get a couple days this weekend as well. I think  because class was right after waking up for me I was just really stiff and getting into poses really hurt today.

At one point in class I was thinking I am going to just sit out and rest for a while but then at that very exact moment Garland said,”It doesn’t matter if you do the postures perfectly it only matters if you try and then you get 100% of the benefit.” At that moment I realized she was speaking to me or reading my mind. I couldn’t rest after that and I pushed onward through the end of class. I am so glad looking back now that I did that.

At the end of class I did some stretching and felt a little defeated today. I told Garland that on my way out and she said not to feel that way at all. She said that I am actually progressing and getting better if I am feeling that way. She shared with me that her back hasn’t been the same since her backbending seminar a month ago. It felt really good to have her encouragement and support and to know that I am moving forward in my practice. I think this is where patience is supposed to come in. I feel like I am a toddler wanting my practice to be perfect NOW and the yoga gods are like no girl… you have to be patient… this could take years or lifetimes.  I guess this yoga is also a practice in patience. Another thing for me to work on.

After class I made a yummy vegetarian feast for Thanksgiving and our neighbor Walter came over for dinner. He is having a ton of body issues with hips and knees…. I am working on him to get him to Bikram Yoga… I am thinking I will break him down soon enough. I even dangled my free class I got for my Birthday. I will keep you posted if I can get him to come.

I am currently in a food coma and thinking about hitting tomorrow’s class at 10am… Kim is teaching her first class and I am excited to be there and experience her first class… I am sure it will be amazing.
