Day 5 of “CLEAN” Cleanse
I have not been as good at posting daily for this challenge like the Bikram Yoga 60 day Challenge. I was in the middle of typing a post last night at about midnight when my toddler daughter came stumbling downstairs looking for me. I had to put the post on hold – motherhood called.
So here I am tonight and I feel ready to post about some happenings on this cleanse.
1. If you decide to do this cleanse definitely buy the book Clean: The Revolutionary Program to Restore the Body’s Natural Ability to Heal Itselfby Alejandro Junger, MD. Sam, a fellow yogi, graciously lent me his nice hardback copy and I returned it to him tonight because my awesome hubby ordered me my very own copy. This is the kicker he ordered it last night and it came today!! I got the paperback so I could carry it around easier. It has great recipes and all sorts of health appendixes so I think it will be a great resource for the future as well. I was also happy to see the book is on the New York Times Best-Sellers List.
2. You definitely need a partner in crime or a support source for this cleanse. I have Katie a great yoga friend and it has been so helpful to text with her how you are feeling during the day and any frustrations or good feelings you are having. Just the comparing of things helps. I definitely think it makes it more of a fun thing to have a friend to do this with.
I did not weigh myself prior to the cleanse. I actually stopped weighing myself sometime last year because I became one of those crazy OCD weighing people and it made me a little mental. I will say that in the 5 days I have been doing the cleanse (8 days if you count the pre-cleanse) my clothes definitely feel looser and I feel lighter.
I am happy to report that I have not had any hunger or cravings and I have no desire to stray from the program at this point. I have also been able to attend Bikram Yoga every day since I started the cleanse and I have gotten through all the classes pretty strong. I am definitely not as strong during class and feel a little muscle fatigued but I think that is because the toxins are just working their way out of my body.
One thing that is great is I have been able to do this cleanse and have a normal life. I have been able to eat out and pick the correct things off the menu. Today for my lunch solid meal I ate a Jason’s Deli Salad and had water with lemon. I made sure to only include the allowed veggies on the salad and I used olive oil as a dressing. A couple days back I ordered Chinese for my solid meal and had brown rice with steam veggies. So my friends there is a way to do this and remain in the normal eating world.
I have been obsessed with these raw sprouted pumpkin seeds you get at Whole Foods. They are just awesome and the best little thing to add to salads or eat as just a snack.
I also have found that frozen cherries are awesome in smoothies. I did a frozen cherry and peach smoothie today for my breakfast and dinner. I have found that I am definitely not as puffy as before and I am just feel better overall and it’s only been 5 days!
I will be challenged Saturday because Katie and I are driving to DC to attend the Mid-Atlantic Asana Yoga Championships for the day. I am sure we can just take our smoothies on the road but it will be a test to both of us to be good. We are planning to eat out and find a good healthy place. I will report back after that happens.
